Chevelle – Face To The Floor Lyrics

To pick up the tip doesn’t mean a lot
Fiddle inside your drawers
If we own the night then spread it out
Or pack up without a clue

Well, caused by their own
And by default
Time to vamanos
Like your face getting forced to the floor

I got a taste of the benefits
Five foot and change
There’s no better way to hash it out
So let’s set up your time to bail

Well, course now the cracks
Should we intervene
I hold this albatross
Like your face getting forced to the floor
And either way you’re way too close to it all

Pay up, never wait ‘em out
Clever, madoff take it all
Your mouth blessed
Take ‘em all the way right back down
Clueless mess
Pay up, never take it all
Take it all

Like your face getting forced to the floor
In a league of your own
And either way
You’re way to close to it all
You cannot veto the world

Like your face getting forced to the floor
In a league of your own
And either way
You’re way to close to it all

Too close to it all

this song is definitely about the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme in 2009. I love how these guys are so thoughtful about the lyrics

This song sounds a lot like old-school Tool circa 1995. The heavy riffs and fading-scream vocals take me back to the good old days of Aenima. I think they come closer to Tool’s sound than any modern band in raw adrenaline. The only thing I don’t like is Chevelle’s lyrics are too obscure and almost sound meaningless. Tool’s lyrics are deep and poetic and beautiful.

I think the lead singer specifically said in an interview this song is about Bernie Madoff, which I’m inclined to believe with this line:

    Clever Madoff, Take it all.

It could be about the other things and people koldkalamity mentioned, but I threw that in too.
Chevelle is awesome by the way. I love how they write about such intelligent, unique subject matter and not the normal “my life sucks I wanna die” “War sucks and the government is evil” or “Satanbloodmurderdeathsexfightingdrugs!” topics so many other metal bands, especially those played on the radio, write over and over again, which is very irritating and tiresome to me.

Hey I’ll be the first to say I’ve been a fan of these guys since high school which was like 5 years ago. I’ll be honest it’s clever and they are entitled to their opinion, but I seriously hope no one takes these lyrics to heart. Honestly, I think it’s due to the quality of education we’ve received for past generations catching up to us..now I’m certainly not suggesting we blame teachers, but the fools in charge of State education that has demanded in recent generations that they are to “Teach by the book” which might also lead to the notion of why more and more kids year after year dislike the idea of school ( I’m going to admit, outside of sports and friends I hated school all my life right until the point I was paying 2 grand a year for a pointless degree where I will then move on to a large loan for more schooling or go in the military but I digress. My point being is American’s are clueless right now..YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, FIND OUT WHO YOU WANT RUNNING YOUR GOVERNMENT AND VOTE! It’s not a scam, Obama got elected..if it was a scam and all those guys on Wall Street, how could he possibly become elected, he’s anti-capitalist. It’s not about taking back the country, we all are the United States of America, we have the country. We need to open our minds as individuals, stop acting like a bunch of immature baby’s whining, roll our sleeves up and get down to work to bring this country back. It only starts with one person..to go out there every day to make your life better, learn what you can to make this a better tomorrow..And by the way, the bull…the bull stands for “bull market” vs. “bear” market it’s a metaphor for making gains on profits. The point is to make profits (legally) it is what drives the economy. If we keep acting the way we are all that will happen is the economy will collapse and basically the government will take your life over. I’m for freedom and I believe in the constitution.

I think it’s an attack on those who are responsible for causing the middle class suffering with foreclosures, job layoffs, and heavy debt. Specifically, how there were bank bail outs after the financial crisis but regular people had to cover the bill. It’s like a hand above that’s oppressing you and pushing you down to ‘Face the Floor’. Check it out:

The album is called ‘Hat’s Off to the Bull’. I’m inclined to believe they are referring to the Charging Bull, the bronze statue that represents Wall St.

If this rings true, Chevelle just got an album purchase from me for being some truly intelligent dudes who also write the most decent licks around.
