Counting Crows Reveal Official Tracklist For New Album "Underwater Sunshine"

Check Out The Official Tracklist For Counting Crows’s New 2012 Album “Underwater Sunshine”

After a four year hiatus, Counting Crows will return with a new album in 2012. The title of their latest creation will be “Underwater Sunshine.” The new full-length album will serve as a follow-up to the band’s 2008 release “Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings.” Unfortunately, if you were looking forward to listening to a new Counting Crows original song, you’ll have to wait a while longer and here is the reason why.
“Underwater Sunshine” will consist of a collection of 15 covers of different songs, including “Coming Around” originally performed by Travis and “You Ain’t Going Nowhere” by Bob Dylan. Although the new album doesn’t include any new songs, Counting Crows are counting on that this new LP will keep the fans happy until they release a new album with original tracks and so far we don’t have any word on when that will be.
The new covers album will be officially released on April 10th, 2012. But floppy-dreaded band member, Adam Duritz, has announced that they’ll be streaming all of the 15 tracks well in advance. “Underwater Sunshine” is also known as “What We Did on Our Summer Vacation” and it will feature some re-workings of pre-Counting Crows era. It will be the first LP released by the band in the Facebook-Twitter era.
In a recent interview, frontman Adam Duritz declared that they have no intention of keeping the album hidden away from the fans until the release, but rather give them a chance to listen and enjoy the new music. “You can either try to treat the Internet like it is a big drain sucking your profit down the tubes, or you can realize it’s also a conduit. There’s got to be a better way than just bemoaning the loss.” To be quite frank, their attitude is really great, as opposed to artists who are trying their best to get laws like ACTA or SOPA to pass which have a direct bearing on internet downloads.
The songs which will be featured on “Underwater Sunshine” were recorded during two weeks. They started in April 2011 and then finished in June. You might be surprised to find out that this loose recording program, and the fact that the album consists of obscure covers, allowed the frontman of Counting Crows to focus more on developing his first play, “Black Sun,” which premiered in August, 2011 at California’s Ojai Playwright Conference.
