Cypress Hill Will Release A 5 Track Dubstep EP!

First of all we know that the effort will be just 5 tracks. We also know that the EP will be titled “Cypress X Rusko”. You could say that the announcement about Cypress Hill releasing a dubstep album in collaboration with the UK DJ Rusko has caught more than a few people in the music industry just a little bit off guard. But well get to more on that in just in a bit after we get the basics covered for you. This is what we know so far about the hip hop trio’s latest project. And no, we do not have a track listing for you yet.

As far as a release date goes, the official announcement was a bit vague. All that was disclosed is that we should expect it sometime in April. Ok, so we at least have it narrowed down to the month, right? That’s better than many of the announcements that we see cross our desks.

But now, let’s get back to why this new endeavor for Cypress Hill has raised more than a few eyebrows. After all, electronic dubstep mixed with hip-hop is not what you long time fans of Cypress Hill were quite expecting as a follow up to their 2010 release “Rise Up.” Granted, it would have been nice if they could have given us a bit more than a 30 second sound bite as a promo to the new album. Kind of hard to make a decision in 30 seconds. At least that’s my opinion.

And since were on the on the topic of opinions, not everyone is exactly thrilled with the hip-hop meets dubstep. To illustrate that point, JT Langley from Ology.com thinks of it as “Asinine to make a dupstep album.” The only way to really determine if this project will be successful is to wait until April and see if the fans of Cypress Hill will plunk down their hard earned cash.

When asked about teaming up with Rusko, rapper B-Real said in an official statement that it “Would be a great match” and also added that “Cypress X Rusko” is going to be “Something radically different than what people expect from us.”

Hey, we all like something a little different every now and then. And unfortunately, we have to wait a few months to see just how well this new concept will be accepted.
